The Alternative Delivery (AD) Business Class Lead (BCL) will work with the Professional Services Director (PSD), Alternative Delivery Director(s) (ADD), Business Class peers, and HDR peers on technical and staff development, coordination, monitoring and improvement of technical competencies of Business Class (BC) staff and technical execution.
The BCL can have or be assigned a technical focus (topical focus) and/or an area (geographic) focus.
BCLs with a topical focus often facilitate technical quality control and/or assurance, project execution, delivery, consultation, and mentoring in relation to a technical specialty falling under one or more technical services areas throughout HDR.
BCLs with an area or geographic focus may collaborate on business class efforts with market sector directors, regional business group directors, area business group managers, business development leaders, local market sector (marketing) leaders.
BCLs are called upon to lead or mentor Practice Groups and/or activities to continually improve standards and best practices.
BCLs often serve as lead quality assurance (e.
g.
, PARR) and independent technical reviewers for complex projects.
Desired Results Meet/exceed client s expectations on collaborative delivery models such as Alternative Delivery (AD), Design-Build (DB) / Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC), Progressive Design-Build (PDB), Construction Manager-General Contractor (CMGC) / Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR), and/or Integrated Project Delivery (IPD).
Lead project cultures that integrate HDR teams with contractor teams to achieve the collaborative value proposition.
Manage HDR AD risk through development of teams, processes and procedures, project leadership and coordination with other HDR business leaders.
Drive to zero injuries, losses and claims.
Roles & ResponsibilitiesSupport PSD and ADD to provide company-wide leadership of technical capabilities within the BC.
Support development and application of technical tools, standards, best practices and techniques to enhance service quality and efficiency.
Verify (potential) AD project teams are aware of and monitoring emerging technologies.
Support PSD with assignment of qualified, experienced staff to projects including the support of worksharing.
Support PSD and ADD with providing strategic and tactical business trends as well as developing and implementing strategic plans for the BC.
Support PSD with monitoring business class direction, adherence to policies and practices, quality, technical tools, best practices, project staffing and resource to work load allocation.
Support PSD with building and/or enhancing technical expertise and production capacity through recruitment, implementation, training, and knowledge transfer.
Coordinate strategic BC hires with Business Group Leadership at the national, regional, area and local levels.
Support PSD and ADD with facilitating BC technical experts in support of client development and project pursuits.
Support PSD with verifying BC technical experts represent HDR by active involvement in industry organizations and functions including presentations and publications.
Oversee practice groups within the business class.
Support PSD and ADD with facilitating knowledge transfer (i.
e.
lessons learned) for project delivery, processes, trends, successes, strengths and weaknesses.
Support PSD with monitoring company-wide performance within BC to achieve defined goals and support Business Group Leadership at the national, regional, area and local levels in monitoring project performance and implementation of corrective actions.
Support ADD on strategic ADD pursuits and projects, including meetings and presentations with potential and current owners and construction teaming partners.
Support ADD in development of proposal and project review information for HDR s Risk Committee.
Develop and refine project process flow diagrams showing typical inputs/outputs from key stakeholders, including DB / EPC, PDB, CMGC/CMAR and IPD.
Develop best practices for interfacing with contractors and owners on equipment and material procurement, specifically with regard to early procurement of long lead equipment and material.
Develop best practices and tools for early engagement of contractors, including constructability reviews and development of decision logs.
Work with Project Manager and Engineering Manager to integrate design decisions which optimize material/equipment procurement and construction.
Plan, manage and control critical design decisions with contractor input into each design decision.
Develop best practices to work with construction partners on cost estimating and schedule development/maintenance.
Work with Project Management Office (PMO) to develop and refine scope, schedule, budget standards unique to multiple delivery models.
Drive proactive proposal and project team awareness of integrating across all disciplines on the proposal and project by framing key questions/issues which must be answered and coordinated.
Work with Project Managers (PMs) and Engineering Managers (EMs) to identify processes, procedures and standards to design to bid .
This may include value engineering and/or alternative proposals.
Goal is to drive each design decision by contractor s optimal means and methods in a manner that meets the basis of design (BOD).
Partner with PMs, EMs, BCs, and other technical subject matter experts (SMEs) throughout proposal development and project kickoff to drive a collaborative culture and identify critical touchpoints between engineering, procurement and construction.
Identify, control and mitigate risk specific to various delivery models, and on a project-by-project basis.
Drive a proactive change management project team culture.
Drive a project culture conducive to leveraging the Commercial Manager value proposition.
Serve as a PM, EM, Principal-in-Charge, QA/QC Lead or Advisor on AD proposals and projects.
Work with the PM and RBG Area Business Group Manager (ABGM) during the proposal to ensure the right effort is included within the proposal for BC involvement in the project.
LI-MB1 QualificationsRequired QualificationsBachelor s of Science degree in electrical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, construction management or similar relevant education and experience.
Minimum 10 years of professional experience and 5 years serving as an EM or PM on multi-disciplinary AD project experience.
Broad based project experience, including linear and vertical projects.
Maintains professional registration or certification and has extensive related technical experience.
Understands what key questions need to be answered by key stakeholders during the proposal and throughout project kickoff and execution.
Experienced in management and development of diverse teams.
Works cooperatively with company, operations managers, technical directors, and marketing managers on BC related efforts.

Preferred QualificationsPE license or PMP.
Experience working with multiple remote project teams.
Understanding of commercial risk and mitigation strategies in alternative project delivery models.
Project execution experience within multiple market sectors and/or throughout North America.

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
